Podiatrists are the only doctors to receive specialized medical and surgical training, and board certification in the care of the lower extremity. DPMs are also surgical specialists for a wide range of needs, including surgery for bunions (Lapidus bunionectomy), hammertoes, Achilles tendon disorders, foot and ankle fractures, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, and more.
